The Faller Car System is the name for a fascinating technical innovation for modellers!
The integral motor drives the vehicle along, powered either by rechargeable batteries or standard 'AA' cells* depending on the model chosen, whilst a steerable front axle guides the vehicles through the streets using a specially strong magnet mounted on a triple steering link on the front axle following the route of a buried wire, to actually steer them along the roads.
The vehicles can be stopped via a reed contact at stops, such as bus stops, traffic lights, level crossings.
A range of Basic Start Sets is available, compatible with HO, TT and N gauge model railways, using generally German outline vehicles.
Additional items include branch-off junctions, traffic lights, stop sections, bus stop, filling station, roadworks set.
Many modellers replace the bodyshell with a British outline example to be compatible with OO model railways, or as a stand alone feature.
